Authorities have apprehended a suspect involved in the armed robbery that occurred at a Saika salon in Nairobi on July 26, 2026. The incident targeted women attending a chama meeting, during which cash and mobile phones were stolen.
Arrest and Investigation
Detectives from Kayole Police Station, operating under the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), arrested Dennis Macharia, also known as Mahua, in Korogocho following an intelligence-led operation. Macharia is believed to be one of two men who entered the salon armed and committed the robbery.
Details of the Robbery
- The robbery happened at around 3:00 pm during a routine chama meeting of the Queen’s Women Chama.
- One suspect brandished a pistol, ordering the women to hand over their mobile phones and cash.
- The duo escaped with KSh 50,000 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy A17 phone.
- Security footage captured the suspects’ actions, including the armed threat and the accomplice’s role in controlling the scene.
Ongoing Efforts
Police recovered a motorcycle with registration number KMDE 473B, believed to have been used in the robbery, along with two knives. While Macharia is in custody awaiting arraignment, his accomplice, who was unarmed during the incident, remains at large. Investigators continue to follow leads to locate and arrest the second suspect.
