Authorities in Kilifi have detained two individuals suspected of drug trafficking after recovering 84 large rolls of cannabis sativa in Mariakani.
The operation, led by officers from Mariakani police station, intercepted a motorcycle transporting the narcotics within the Njoro area of Mariakani Township. The suspects were promptly taken into custody, and the seized cannabis along with the motorcycle have been retained as evidence.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects are undergoing processing ahead of arraignment. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and urged the public to continue providing intelligence to aid these efforts.
Ongoing Nationwide Anti-Narcotics Campaign
This arrest follows a series of recent operations targeting narcotics across the country. Last month, detectives conducted coordinated raids in Mombasa, Kitengela, and Busia, resulting in five arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of cannabis.
- In the Coast region, officers intercepted a lorry carrying approximately 450kg of cannabis valued at about Sh12.15 million.
- In Kitengela, a raid on an entertainment venue led to the recovery of two bales and multiple rolls of cannabis, with one suspect arrested.
- In Busia, an ambush based on intelligence uncovered two sacks of cannabis in a vehicle, leading to further arrests.
All suspects from these operations remain in custody pending court proceedings, with seized drugs and vehicles held as exhibits. The DCI emphasized that intelligence-driven operations will continue nationwide to disrupt illegal drug production, transportation, and distribution.
The agency also called on members of the public to support the crackdown by reporting suspected drug-related activities confidentially, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in fighting drug trafficking.
Investigations into the Kilifi case are ongoing.
