Detectives in Tharaka Nithi County have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man's body in River Ruguti, Chuka South Subcounty.

The body, believed to be that of a man in his mid-30s, was found floating near the Chuka–Embu highway bridge on Saturday. It was covered with a black mask and had both hands tied behind the back using sisal rope.

With assistance from local residents, police retrieved the body. A preliminary examination revealed a deep cut on the forehead, possibly caused by a blunt instrument, alongside bleeding from the ears and nose.

Authorities processed the scene before transferring the body to Chuka Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.

The police continue to investigate the circumstances of the death and are working to identify the victim and those responsible.
