President Ruto Appoints New Leaders to Key State Agencies
President William Ruto appoints chairpersons and board members to critical state agencies including National Cybersecurity Agency and Kenya Wildlife Service.
President William Ruto has made fresh appointments and reappointments to several key state boards, strengthening leadership across vital government agencies.
New Leadership at National Cybersecurity Agency
Martin Koyabe has been named non-executive chairperson of the Board of Directors for the newly established National Cybersecurity Agency. His three-year term commenced on August 21, 2026, following the gazettement of the agency’s legal framework under the State Corporations Order, 2026. This move aims to bolster Kenya’s institutional response to emerging cybersecurity threats.
Railway Development Levy Fund Board Gets New Chair
Lynette Njeru was appointed non-executive chairperson of the Railway Development Levy Fund Board, also for a three-year period starting August 21, 2026. She will work alongside board members John Cheruiyot Rotich, Meshack Otieno Kidenda, Lee Mutunga, and Patrick Nabiswa Koyi to oversee the levy fund dedicated to railway infrastructure development.
Reappointments in Health and Wildlife Agencies
- Joseah Kiplangat Cheruiyot’s tenure as chairperson of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Board of Management was renewed for another three years. He has served since 2023, guiding the institution responsible for training middle-level healthcare professionals.
- Prof Erastus Mutembei Kanga was reappointed Director-General of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) for a further three years. He continues to lead efforts in wildlife conservation and management.
Additional Board Appointments Across Sectors
- Patrick Kimemia Ndirangu, Lucy Chepkemoi, Amos Simiyu Makokha, and Ali Mohamed Haji were reappointed to the Public Procurement Regulatory Board for three years.
- Joseph Gitonga Riungu was named chairperson of the Intelligence Service Complaints Board, with Naema Ibrahim Somo, Lawrence Nyalle, Samwel Owino Wakiaga, and Charity Kagwi Ndung’u joining as members.
- Stephen Mutai joined the National Transport and Safety Authority board as a member.
- In education, appointments were made to the councils of Kisiwa, Rift Valley, and Kajiado national polytechnics, along with Dr. Shem Tai to the Pwani University Council.
- Wanyama Musiambo was reappointed chairperson of the Bukura Agricultural College Board of Governors, with Dr. Titus Mutwiri appointed as a board member.
These appointments are part of President Ruto’s efforts to ensure effective governance and oversight in critical state institutions, with most terms set for three years starting August 21, 2026.
