President William Ruto has called on all Kenyans to participate in a national dialogue that he describes as the most important since the 2010 Constitution was adopted. The initiative aims to chart Kenya’s future development agenda with a focus on unity and long-term goals.

Addressing the nation, President Ruto emphasized the need to move beyond partisan politics and electoral cycles to build a collective vision for the country’s progress. He acknowledged that while Vision 2030 set an ambitious goal for Kenya to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030, the country is currently off track to meet this target.

"Vision 2030 set a target of Kenya becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030. So far, we are off target. This is not a criticism of Vision 2030, nor is it a reason for disappointment; rather, it is an opportunity to learn from our successes proudly, reflect with honesty on where we have fallen short, and define together Kenya's next long-term vision," he stated.

Economic Progress and Future Prospects

The President highlighted recent economic reforms that have strengthened Kenya’s macroeconomic stability. These include currency stabilization, reduced inflation, lower borrowing costs, and renewed investor confidence. In 2025, Kenya attracted a record $3.2 billion in foreign direct investment, more than doubling the previous year’s figure.

Kenya’s improved investment climate earned international recognition, with the country ranking as Africa’s most competitive economy in the 2025 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking.

Strategic Financial Institutions

President Ruto also noted the establishment of the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund. These institutions are designed to finance strategic investments and preserve national wealth for future generations.

Facing Challenges and Shaping the Future

Ruto posed critical questions about Kenya’s development trajectory, urging citizens to honestly assess why the nation has not fully realized its potential compared to others. He stressed the importance of collective commitment to ensure a different and successful future chapter for Kenya.

"The question we must ask ourselves candidly and honestly is why other nations have fulfilled so much of their potential while we have repeatedly fallen short. What must we now do differently to ensure that the next chapter of Kenya's development story is fundamentally different from the last?" he challenged.

The President’s call to action is a nationwide appeal for unity and active participation in crafting Kenya’s shared destiny beyond political divisions.
