President William Ruto has applauded Team Kenya for their impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. The country secured a total of 12 medals, finishing 12th overall on the medal table.

The President congratulated the gold medal winners: Edmund Serem in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang in the men’s 5,000m, and Faith Cherotich in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase.
He also acknowledged the silver medalists: Stephen Ndangiri Kihu (10,000m walk), Simon Kiprop Koech (3,000m steeplechase), Diana Wanza (10,000m), and Lilian Odira (800m).
Bronze medals were earned by Leonard Kipkemoi Bett (3,000m steeplechase), Wyclife Kinyamal (800m), Timothy Cheruiyot (One Mile), Irene Jepkemboi (Javelin), and Joshua Amunga Mboya (60kg weightlifting).
Boosting Kenya’s Global Image
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano highlighted that the athletes’ achievements not only elevate Kenya’s profile internationally but also contribute to the growth of sports and athletics tourism. She emphasized how Kenya’s dominance in distance running promotes high-altitude training hubs like Iten as sought-after destinations for athletes and wellness tourists.
The success at the Games, Miano noted, further sparks interest in Kenya’s renowned safari, adventure, and cultural attractions, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a premier tourist destination.
President Ruto expressed gratitude to the athletes for their dedication and for proudly representing Kenya on the world stage.
