President William Ruto is set to officially open the National Ambulance Dispatch Centre today at the Social Health Authority (SHA) headquarters in Nairobi. This centre will serve as Kenya's central hub for coordinating emergency medical responses nationwide.
Operating via the SHA 922 Lifeline, the dispatch centre will unify ambulance services across all 47 counties. It will manage emergency calls, dispatch ambulances, conduct clinical triage, and track vehicles in real time to ensure timely medical interventions.
The centre will also enhance collaboration between ambulance teams and healthcare facilities, facilitating patient referrals to the most appropriate hospitals for emergency care.
According to officials, over 200 ambulances accredited by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) have already been integrated into the system, with plans to onboard more service providers as coverage expands.
The facility is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of 40 professionals, including medical officers, doctors, and customer service personnel, tasked with managing dispatch operations and supporting the digital coordination platform.
