The Public Service Commission (PSC) has scheduled the 2026 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers to take place from September 21 to 24, 2026. The exams will be held at nine centres nationwide, including Machakos, Nyeri, Mombasa, Embu, Garissa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Eldoret.

Registered candidates will receive details of their specific examination venues after the registration process concludes.

Eligibility and Registration Process

  • Candidates must have at least a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of C- or its equivalent.
  • Applicants must currently serve as clerical officers in the Public Service with a minimum of one year’s experience in that role.
  • First-time applicants are required to complete Form A, which must be endorsed by their Head of Department or Section.
  • Those retaking the exam should fill out Form B.

Both forms are accessible on the Public Service Commission website. Completed forms, together with the Government copy of the receipt from the eCitizen platform, must be submitted to the PSC Secretary and Chief Executive in Nairobi by Friday, August 28, 2026.

Fees and Payment

  • The basic registration fee is Sh2,625.
  • Each examination paper costs Sh875, with seven papers in total.
  • An additional Sh50 is charged as an eCitizen platform fee.
  • Late registration will incur a fee of Sh525 and will be accepted until Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Applicants must register and pay through the PSC eCitizen portal, where they will select their exam type, centre, and await approval via SMS before completing payment and downloading the receipt.

Certificate Collection

The PSC also announced that certificates for officers who passed the September 2025 exams are now available for collection at the Public Service Commission House during official hours. Recipients should present their original national ID or passport.

Officers who passed previous promotional exams but have not yet collected their certificates are encouraged to do so promptly.
