The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) has launched the second edition of the National Qur’an Competition, offering more than Sh5.2 million in prize money to top Qur’an memorisers nationwide.
The contest will begin with preliminary rounds held from September 5 to 7 at seven centres across Kenya: Jamia Mosque Nairobi, Masjid Andalus in Garissa, Masjid Bilal in Mombasa, Jamia Mosque Nakuru, Jamia Mosque Isiolo, Masjid Falah in Wajir, and Jamia Mosque Mandera. This decentralised approach enables participants from various regions to compete close to home before finalists advance to Nairobi.
Competition Categories and Prizes
Participants will compete in four categories based on the number of Juz’ memorised: 30, 20, 15, and 5 Juz’. The top prize in the 30-Juz’ category is Sh863,000, with second and third places receiving Sh691,000 and Sh518,000 respectively.
- 20 Juz’ category: Sh691,000 for first, Sh518,000 for second, Sh345,000 for third
- 15 Juz’ category: Sh518,000 for first, Sh345,000 for second, Sh173,000 for third
- 5 Juz’ category: Sh345,000 for first, Sh173,000 for second, Sh104,000 for third
Event Organisation and Timeline
The competition is organised by SUPKEM in partnership with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of Saudi Arabia, and the Jamia Mosque Committee Nairobi. Applications opened on August 13 and will close on September 1.
Finalists who qualify from the preliminary rounds will compete in the national finals scheduled for October 11 to 13 in Nairobi.
Eligible Qur’an memorisers from across the country are encouraged to apply before the deadline to take part in this prestigious event that celebrates Islamic scholarship and memorisation skills.
