The Registrar of Political Parties, John Cox Lorionokou, has agreed to reconsider his earlier decision to reject the registration of the Linda Mwananchi Party of Kenya (LMPK) name following fresh talks with political leaders.
The initial refusal was based on concerns that the name resembled existing reserved slogans such as "Linda Mkenya" and "Boresha Kenya," and issues related to public interest, as outlined under Section 8 of the Political Parties Act.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Linda Mwananchi Movement, represented by Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and other prominent politicians including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and MPs Babu Owino, Jack Wamboka, and Danson Mwashako, engaged the Registrar in extensive discussions.
Omondi expressed optimism about the outcome, stating, "There is no reason to refuse the registration of the name Linda Mwananchi, and we have agreed that the decision will be reviewed. We expect a final response before the end of the week."
The Linda Mwananchi Movement aims to formalize its status as a coalition party ahead of the 2027 General Election. The group has been actively expanding its presence nationwide, focusing on key issues such as governance, unemployment, and the cost of living.
The Registrar's reconsideration could enable the movement to retain its preferred name, strengthening its political positioning. The movement has gained traction through grassroots mobilization and is viewed as a platform for citizens seeking alternatives to the current political establishment.
