The Registrar of Political Parties, John Cox Lorionokou, has agreed to re-examine his earlier decision to reject the Linda Mwananchi Movement's application to reserve their proposed party name ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement initially faced a setback when the Registrar declined their request to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Party of Kenya (LMPK), citing similarities with existing party names and slogans, as well as concerns about public interest.
During a consultative meeting held on August 4, 2026, the movement's delegation, led by spokesperson and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, described the discussions as constructive. Omondi stated that the Registrar promised to review the previous decision and provide a final ruling by the end of the week.
"There is no reason to refuse the name Linda Mwananchi Movement," Omondi said, expressing confidence that the issues raised can be resolved through dialogue.
The movement is actively working to transition from a grassroots outfit into a registered political party, aiming to solidify its presence as political alliances shift ahead of the elections.
Omondi reassured the public, saying, "Once the name is reserved, everything else will fall into place. We are confident the name will be reserved."
The Registrar's forthcoming decision on the party name will be pivotal in determining the movement's path towards official registration under the Political Parties Act.
