Rosemary Koech Kimwatu, who led data protection at Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Group, passed away on the morning of Friday, August 21, at her home in Ngong.

KICTANet, where Koech served as a board member, announced her passing and paid tribute to her dedication to privacy rights and data governance. The organisation described her as a passionate advocate for human-centric digital frameworks and regional data protection policies.

Career and Legacy

Koech built a professional career spanning nearly two decades, focusing on the intersection of law, fintech, public policy, and data protection. She joined KCB Bank Group in June 2022 as the data protection officer and was promoted a year later to head of data protection, overseeing compliance across the bank’s operations.

Before joining KCB, she worked at Safaricom PLC as a public policy manager. Throughout her career, Koech championed privacy and the protection of personal data in the evolving digital economy, grounding her work in principles of human rights and justice.
