At least 14 people lost their lives and 22 others were injured following a Russian ballistic missile and drone assault on Kyiv in the early hours of Wednesday. This marks one of the most lethal attacks on the Ukrainian capital this year.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, reported that the enemy launched a massive offensive targeting the Kyiv region after midnight. Air raid sirens sounded for over an hour as waves of missiles struck the city and its outskirts.
The missile barrage caused significant damage to residential buildings and warehouses. Fatalities were reported across several districts: nine in Boryspil, four in Bucha, and one in Fastiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko expressed concern that some victims might still be trapped under rubble. He also noted that four of the injured were in serious condition.
The Russian Defence Ministry claimed responsibility, stating that the strikes targeted logistics hubs and supply centres involved in storing and distributing weapons, military supplies, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Additionally, three cargo vessels transporting military equipment near Odesa were reportedly hit.
Ukraine has called on its allies for additional US-made Patriot missile interceptors to strengthen its defence against ongoing ballistic attacks.
This recent escalation follows intensified Russian attacks on Kyiv and increased Ukrainian strikes on Russian infrastructure, including warehouses and power facilities. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians, though Kyiv’s military administration condemned the attacks as deliberate strikes on civilian infrastructure.
