Ruto Ally Mwengi Mutuse Accuses Uhuru of Plotting Against UDA Ahead of 2027 Polls

Allies of President William Ruto have intensified criticism of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, alleging he is quietly engineering a political alliance aimed at dislodging the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) before the 2027 General Election.

During a church service at AIC Watuka in Mbooni Constituency on Sunday, Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse condemned Uhuru's alleged efforts, calling it unfair given the support President Ruto provided during Uhuru's two terms in office.

Mutuse highlighted that Ruto remained loyal to Uhuru when many doubted him and worked hard to secure his victories in the 2013 and 2017 elections. He further urged the former president to acknowledge the current administration's achievements, noting that Ruto is implementing development initiatives that were not realized under Uhuru.

Mutuse stated:

• "It is unfortunate for the former President to turn against the very leader who stood with him throughout his presidency."
• He urged Uhuru to step back from active politics to allow President Ruto to focus on his development agenda without unnecessary distractions.

The comments come amid speculation of opposition leaders consolidating ahead of the 2027 polls. Attention is focused on an upcoming Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Council meeting, which Uhuru is expected to chair as the coalition's council chairperson.

However, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka dismissed claims that Uhuru is leading opposition efforts against President Ruto, describing the meeting as a coalition-strengthening exercise rather than a campaign against the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Similarly, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna denied reports linking him to financing the Linda Mwananchi movement and confirmed ongoing communication with Uhuru.

The political exchanges revive the fallout between Ruto and Uhuru, who were initially elected on a joint ticket in 2013 and re-elected in 2017 before parting ways ahead of the 2022 elections. In 2022, Uhuru backed Raila Odinga, while Ruto successfully clinched the presidency.
