President William Ruto has commissioned a team of experts, including Professor Hiroyuki Hino and Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, to explore Kenya’s development trajectory beyond the current Vision 2030 framework.
In a recent national address, Ruto explained that the move aims to prepare Kenya for a new era of growth grounded in the Constitution and long-term strategic planning. He emphasized that the team’s proposals serve as a preliminary foundation for a broader national dialogue on the country’s future development priorities.
Strategic Guidelines for National Transformation
Ruto revealed that he has received recommendations from the experts outlining ambitious yet attainable goals. Central to their vision is the aspiration for Kenya to become a prosperous, high-income, industrialised, and globally competitive nation within one generation.
However, the President clarified that these proposals are not a government blueprint but rather a starting point for inclusive discussions involving all Kenyans.
Inclusive and Citizen-Centered Process
The President stressed that the next development framework must transcend political interests and electoral cycles. He called for a people-driven process that incorporates the views of farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, professionals, faith groups, youth, and other citizens.
“A vision worthy of guiding Kenya for the next generation cannot be written by Government. It cannot be crafted by a handful of experts, however distinguished,” Ruto stated.
Launching the National Conversation
The official National Conversation on Kenya’s Future Beyond Vision 2030 is scheduled to begin on August 12, 2026. This process will engage institutions, counties, sectors, and diverse generations across the country to build consensus on Kenya’s long-term development goals.
Ruto highlighted the importance of reflecting on Vision 2030’s achievements and shortcomings to inform the design of a new national charter. This charter will aim to translate the 2010 Constitution’s development aspirations into measurable outcomes that improve the lives of all Kenyans.
