President William Ruto has called on the counties of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet to collaborate closely as they prepare to jointly host the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret.
Speaking during a Sunday service at ACK St. Stephen's Chepkoilel in Uasin Gishu County, the President emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among the three neighbouring counties. He highlighted that the event presents an opportunity to showcase the region’s progress and promote national cohesion.
Unity and Regional Development
"We have agreed to host Mashujaa Day here. I urge Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu to work together to make this a successful event," Ruto said. "Let us demonstrate to all Kenyans what unity looks like because we are one people, one nation."
He acknowledged the counties’ history of collaboration and encouraged them to strengthen their partnership further for the benefit of the Rift Valley and the country at large.
Healthcare and Agricultural Support
In addition to the call for unity, President Ruto urged citizens to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to improve healthcare planning. He announced a government allocation of an additional KSh 19 billion for medicines in the 2026/27 financial year to enhance drug availability in public hospitals.
The President also reassured farmers affected by drought and poor maize harvests of government support, including plans to reduce prices of fertilisers and certified seeds ahead of the short rains to boost food production.
Vision 2060 Framework
Defending the proposed Vision 2060 development blueprint, Ruto said Kenya needs a new long-term plan to succeed Vision 2030 and align with the 2010 Constitution. He encouraged Kenyans to participate in shaping this framework and setting the country’s future development priorities.
