President William Ruto has allocated Sh600 million to support development projects at Kaimosi Friends University College. This includes Sh550 million for the construction of new student hostels and Sh50 million to establish a peace centre.
The announcement was made during a meeting with members of the Friends Church at State House, Nairobi, where Ruto emphasized the government's commitment to expanding public infrastructure and fostering unity.
Addressing the university leadership, including Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Agutu, the President confirmed that the hostel funding had been set aside as an initial allocation, with the possibility of further support based on project progress and additional needs.
Regarding the peace centre, Ruto expressed strong support, calling it a vital initiative for promoting peace and social cohesion in the region. He handed over a Sh50 million cheque to kickstart the project.
Broader Infrastructure Agenda
These projects form part of Ruto's wider infrastructure strategy, which includes the Infrastructure Fund designed to mobilize private investment for large-scale national developments. The fund, seeded with Sh340 billion from asset rationalization and privatization proceeds, aims to reduce reliance on public borrowing.
Ruto highlighted the government's ambitious plan to expand Kenya's road network by 28,000 kilometres within the next seven years, surpassing the 20,000 kilometres of tarmac roads built over the past five decades.
The Infrastructure Fund will oversee key projects such as upgrading Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and enhancing regional transport systems, under the governance of an independent board to ensure transparency and accountability.
Political Support and Election Assurance
During the event, Friends Church leaders pledged their backing for President Ruto's 2027 re-election campaign. Additionally, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi assured Kenyans of a peaceful upcoming General Election.
