President William Ruto has emphasized that the government's affordable housing initiative is deeply rooted in both biblical principles and the rights enshrined in Kenya's constitution.
During a meeting with members of the Friends Church (Quakers) at State House, Nairobi, on Monday, Ruto highlighted that the administration’s development efforts align with scripture and constitutional guarantees, particularly regarding access to housing, healthcare, food, and education.
Visible Progress in Key Sectors
The President pointed to tangible achievements over the past two years, including new roads, schools, agricultural improvements, markets, student hostels, and affordable housing projects nationwide.
"The work we have done over the last two years can be seen. The roads can be seen. The teachers we have employed can be seen. The transformation in agriculture can be seen. The houses we said we would build can be seen. The markets can be seen. The hostels can be seen," he said.
Faith and Action
Ruto urged leaders to prioritize delivering concrete results instead of making empty promises, referencing the biblical teaching that "faith without works is dead." He encouraged the faithful to reflect on Matthew 25, which calls for feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, clothing the needy, and providing shelter to the homeless.
"I had no home. Did you make arrangements for affordable housing?" the President asked, linking the provision of decent housing to the biblical mandate to care for those in need.
Constitutional and Biblical Synergy
He stressed that the Bible and Kenya's constitution complement each other in promoting human dignity. Article 43 of the constitution guarantees every Kenyan the right to adequate housing, healthcare, food, sanitation, social security, and education.
"There is no difference between the Bible and the Constitution of Kenya. Matthew 25 speaks about affordable housing, affordable healthcare and education. Article 43 of the Constitution also speaks about housing, healthcare and food. So let us fulfil the constitution and fulfil the word of God," Ruto said.
Affordable Housing as a Flagship Project
The affordable housing programme remains a cornerstone of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s agenda, aiming to increase access to decent homes while generating employment opportunities within the construction sector.
