President William Ruto has scheduled the launch of a nationwide dialogue on August 12, 2026, aimed at crafting Kenya’s next long-term development strategy following the conclusion of Vision 2030.
In a special national address, the President described this initiative as the most significant exercise in national reflection and public involvement since the 2010 Constitution was enacted. The goal is to develop a new development charter that aligns Kenya’s future progress with the Constitution’s aspirations.
Inclusive Public Participation
Ruto emphasized that the new vision will not be government-driven alone but will involve extensive consultations with diverse stakeholders. This includes political parties, county governments, the private sector, workers’ organizations, faith groups, universities, professional bodies, innovators, civil society, the creative industry, and youth representatives.
"Our Constitution places public participation at the very heart of governance," the President stated, highlighting the constitutional duty to ensure the process is inclusive, transparent, and genuinely national.
Shaping Kenya’s Long-Term Development
The President revealed that over recent months, he has engaged with a wide range of leaders and experts to gather insights on Kenya’s future. A team led by Professor Hiroyuki Hino and Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang' Nyong'o has submitted proposals that envision Kenya becoming a prosperous, high-income, industrialized, and globally competitive nation within a generation.
According to Ruto, the proposals are ambitious but achievable, contingent on unity, disciplined implementation, and a strong commitment to long-term transformation.
Call to Action
The President urged all Kenyans to actively participate in this once-in-a-generation opportunity to define the country’s future. He stressed that the outcomes of this process will determine the legacy inherited by coming generations.
