Safina Party has declared it will engage in political coalitions before the 2027 General Election only if they focus on advancing the economic welfare of ordinary Kenyans.
In a statement shared on X on August 5, 2026, Safina Deputy Leader Willis Otieno emphasized that the party is uninterested in alliances formed merely to distribute political power among elites. Instead, he insisted any coalition must prioritise the economic liberation of the Kenyan people.
Conditions for Coalition Participation
Otieno was clear that Safina will avoid coalitions designed to reward personal ambitions or political elites. He stated, “We have no interest in coalitions assembled merely to redistribute power among political elites, reward personal ambition, or satisfy greed disguised as national unity.”
Highlighting Kenya’s history of shifting political alliances that fail to address economic challenges, Otieno called for unity based on:
- Restoring economic sovereignty
- Ending the national debt trap
- Creating meaningful employment opportunities
- Protecting public resources
- Reducing the tax burden on hardworking citizens
Focus on Shared Economic Vision
He further noted that political unity without a shared purpose is merely an electoral convenience. Safina seeks a movement founded on ideas, integrity, and a clear agenda for national renewal rather than personalities or patronage.
Otieno affirmed Safina’s readiness to collaborate with parties that share its economic vision but warned against compromising the party’s principles for political expediency. “Our loyalty is to the people of Kenya, and that will remain non-negotiable,” he asserted.
His remarks come amid ongoing coalition negotiations as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls, fueling speculation on Safina’s role in the evolving opposition landscape.
