Santi Denia, the Spanish coach who led Spain to Olympic gold in 2024, has been appointed head coach of the Czech Republic national football team, the Football Association of the Czech Republic (FACR) announced on July 31, 2026.
The 52-year-old former centre-back signed a two-year contract with an option for extension, becoming the first foreign coach in the history of Czech football. Denia replaces Miroslav Koubek, who resigned following the Czech Republic's disappointing performance at the recent World Cup, where the team finished last in their group.
Joining Denia as assistant coach is Pablo Amo, who also coached in Qatar last season alongside Denia.

Expressing enthusiasm for his new role, Denia stated on the FACR website, "I'm delighted to be here. And I'm extremely motivated, because I see the chance to lead the Czech national team as a great opportunity. Czech football has a glorious history. I have just one wish: to get down to work as soon as possible."
The Czech Republic will next compete in the UEFA Nations League against England, Croatia, and Spain in late September and early October.
Pavel Nedved, general manager of the Czech national teams, commented, "I can sense that he is ready to get stuck in and will help us build a new identity for the national team."
