ODM nominated Senator Crystal Asige announced her removal from the Senate Committee on Roads, Transport and Housing on July 30, marking the latest shift in committee assignments among ODM lawmakers.
Asige, a vocal advocate for over 8 million Kenyans living with disabilities, expressed surprise and disappointment over the decision. She highlighted her consistent efforts to promote inclusive transport, accessible infrastructure, and the rights of persons with disabilities under the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2025.
"Every day, I come to this house diligently to do my job, to execute the business of those I was brought here to represent, and I do it well despite my disability," Asige said on social media. She acknowledged the possibility that her removal might be a punitive measure but affirmed her resolve to continue her work.
Unlike other ODM senators recently removed from committees after breaking ranks with the party, Asige has maintained her political alignment and has not publicly shifted allegiance. No official explanation has been provided regarding her ouster.
Asige holds leadership roles as the secretary general of the Kenya Disabled Parliamentarians Association and chairperson for Persons with Disabilities in the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association. She emphasized the importance of her committee role in advancing mobility and accessibility issues for persons with disabilities.
This development follows earlier removals of Senators Edwin Sifuna and Godfrey Osotsi, fueling speculation about internal ODM disciplinary actions and criteria guiding committee reshuffles.
