Seven people lost their lives and eight others sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle collision on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway near Mlima Punda, close to Lessos Junction, on Friday morning.
Deputy Police Commander Charles Getende of Ainabkoi reported that the accident involved a Mercedes Actros trailer and two Toyota Hiace matatus. The trailer, heading towards Eldoret, attempted to overtake while descending a hill and collided head-on with the oncoming matatus.
The crash claimed the lives of the driver of one matatu and six passengers at the scene. Emergency teams and local authorities promptly responded, rescuing survivors and transporting the injured to Burnt Forest Hospital and Plateau Hospital for medical care.
Among the deceased were students returning home after school had ended for the day.
