The Social Health Authority (SHA) has initiated a comprehensive review of its healthcare provider contracting system as it prepares for the upcoming contract renewal cycle. This exercise seeks to gather feedback from hospitals and accredited healthcare facilities across Kenya.
Scope of the Review
Termed the National Healthcare Provider Stakeholder Engagement and Contract Cycle Review, the process aims to evaluate the experiences from the 2024-2026 contracting period and collect recommendations to enhance future contracts.
According to a public notice issued on July 31, 2026, the review will provide healthcare providers with a platform to share their insights and suggest improvements to the contracting framework.
Engagement Activities
- 10 regional stakeholder forums covering all 47 counties
- Thematic Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
- An online provider survey accessible via the SHA Provider Portal
The regional forums are scheduled between August 3 and August 7, 2026, with meetings planned in Nyeri, Embu, Machakos, Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, Garissa, Nakuru, and Kakamega. Invitations will be coordinated through SHA’s county offices.
Goals and Expectations
SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi emphasized the importance of healthcare facilities’ participation to foster stronger collaboration between providers and the authority.
The review intends to address challenges faced during the current contracting cycle, such as administrative processes, claims management, digital systems, and contractual obligations. The feedback will guide the development of a more efficient, transparent, and responsive contracting framework that better supports healthcare providers and patients.
This initiative aligns with SHA’s broader objective to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare financing system and enhance service delivery under the universal health coverage programme.
