Shining Hope for Communities (Shofco) has intensified its efforts in Kilifi County, focusing on education, economic empowerment, and community organizing to uplift youth and women.

During the recent election of the Shofco Urban Network (SUN) leaders, which gathered over 5,000 members, CEO Dr. Kennedy Odede emphasized the organisation's commitment to enabling communities to create sustainable solutions.

Empowering Individuals and Communities

  • Gladys Mwaka, a mother of three, transformed her livelihood through Shofco's training and a loan from Shofco Sacco, establishing a successful tailoring business that supports her family.
  • More than 500 students in Kilifi have received scholarships, while 1,500 youths have been sponsored for technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
  • Isaac Ndogo, a beneficiary of Shofco's TVET scholarship, completed an electrical installation course and secured employment, overcoming financial barriers that previously hindered his education.
  • Cahed CBO, led by Jerusha Kale, expanded its farming initiatives with Shofco's support, providing food security and generating income, alongside establishing a school for underserved children.
  • Approximately 1,200 women have gained hands-on skills training aimed at fostering economic independence.

Partnership with Kilifi County Government

Deputy Governor Flora Chibule praised Shofco for its impactful programmes, highlighting the organisation as a vital partner in community development. She acknowledged their collaboration on initiatives such as the Kimbilio Safe House for survivors of gender-based violence.

Chibule noted, "The partnership between Shofco and the county government demonstrates the power of joint efforts in delivering meaningful change to our residents."

Dr. Odede remarked that electing new SUN leaders reinforces community ownership and ensures development projects reflect local priorities. He stated, "This movement empowers ordinary people to drive transformation within their communities."
