Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has affirmed the opposition's resolve to regain political ground lost following the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Speaking in Trans Nzoia County during the Linda Mwananchi tour, Sifuna expressed confidence that the opposition is steadily rebuilding support nationwide ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He recounted the setbacks faced after Raila's death, including losing his positions as ODM Secretary-General and Senate Deputy Minority Whip. Without specifying names, Sifuna indicated that these losses—metaphorically described as being caused by 'locusts'—will be reversed within the next year.

Expanding Support Base

The ODM Secretary-General highlighted recent political tours covering regions such as the Coast, Narok, and Maasai areas, emphasizing growing backing for a united opposition. "There are no votes for Kasongo there," he remarked, underscoring the opposition's expanding reach.

Unity and Coalition Ahead of 2027

Sifuna announced ongoing consultations among opposition leaders to field a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027. He called for unity, stressing that overcoming the Kenya Kwanza administration requires a broad national alliance.

Rallies and Public Support

The Linda Mwananchi movement's rallies in Trans Nzoia attracted large crowds, with Sifuna joined by Governor George Natembeya, MP Babu Owino, Senator Boni Khalwale, and other allied leaders. He also acknowledged public donations via a paybill system, emphasizing grassroots support over reliance on wealthy backers.
