On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, six people were taken into custody in connection with an attack on the planning team of the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay.
The arrests triggered protests by local youth who set bonfires, temporarily disrupting business activities in parts of Homa Bay Town. The rally is scheduled for August 16, 2026.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koelem confirmed the detentions and noted that security forces have been deployed to restore order and ensure safety.
