On Sunday evening, a school bus transporting students to an annual music festival overturned along the Bomet-Kaplong Highway in Bomet County. The bus was carrying learners from Nairobi when it lost control and tipped onto its side.
Images from the scene showed the bus lying on its side with no other vehicles involved in the accident. Due to the crash blocking the main doors, students had to evacuate through the emergency exit with assistance from bystanders who arrived shortly after the incident.
Six students sustained injuries and were rushed to Kaplong Mission Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Ongoing Concerns Over Road Safety on Bomet-Kaplong Highway
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by authorities. The Bomet-Kaplong Highway has a history of serious accidents, raising concerns about the safety of school transport along this route, especially during peak travel times for festivals and holidays.
This incident follows a series of recent accidents involving students on Kenyan roads. Just days earlier, a collision on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway resulted in multiple fatalities, including three students. Similarly, a crash in West Pokot County injured at least 13 pupils traveling in two school buses.
