Steven Onyango, a 25-year-old Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and son of Kasipul parliamentary aspirant Newton Ogada, died in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday, August 1, in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Ogada confirmed the tragedy, explaining that Steven, known as Eddie, was riding a motorcycle with his cousin when a vehicle struck them and fled the scene. Steven was heading to Embakasi Garrison where he served, while his cousin was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital and remains hospitalized.
Life and Legacy
Steven had served in the military for nearly five years and leaves behind a wife and a young daughter. Friends and colleagues mourned his passing, highlighting his integrity and warmth. Bill Clinton, a close friend since high school, remembered him as a gentleman committed to his word and recalled their joint tree-planting initiative in 2020 supporting Kenya's Vision 2030.
Others described Steven as humble and respectful, with many extending condolences to the Ogada family during this difficult time.
Newton Ogada's Community Work
Newton Ogada is known for his philanthropic work through the God Will Provide organisation, which has built over 60 homes for widows and established a school for underprivileged children. He entered politics in 2025 as a Kasipul MP aspirant, making him a notable figure in Homa Bay County.
