Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to maintain his commitment to the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election, describing it as Kalonzo's last opportunity to become Kenya's president.
Speaking at a meeting of opposition leaders held at the SKM Centre in Nairobi, Sonko appealed to Kalonzo not to engage in any political deals with President William Ruto. He emphasized the importance of unity within the opposition and assured Kalonzo of his full support.
"Your Excellency, this is your only bullet," Sonko said, underscoring the significance of the upcoming election for the veteran politician.
Sonko also addressed circulating online videos suggesting Kalonzo held talks with President Ruto. He clarified that the clips were outdated, originating from the National Dialogue Committee report presentation at State House in March 2024, and cautioned supporters against misinformation.
He reiterated the opposition's stance to align with the people's interests and stressed the shared political agenda he pursues alongside Kalonzo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The SKM Centre gathering continued consultations on coalition-building and joint strategies among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 polls.
These remarks follow statements by Senate Deputy Minority Leader and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, who dismissed rumors of Kalonzo meeting President Ruto to discuss a political alliance, affirming Kalonzo's dedication to a united opposition front.
