South Korea is grappling with extreme summer temperatures that have claimed 16 lives so far this year, according to the country’s Interior Ministry.
Between May 15 and August 2, authorities recorded 2,025 cases of heat-related illnesses, highlighting the severity of the ongoing heatwave.
Record-Breaking Temperatures
The nation has shattered its heat records three times in the past week alone. The highest temperature was registered at 42.5°C in Yangsan city on Sunday.
Seoul remains under the highest level of heat alert, known as a "severe heatwave warning," with forecasts predicting temperatures nearing 40°C.
Warnings and Precautions
The national weather agency has issued a statement warning of "extreme, life-threatening heat" conditions, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
