The Moon is set to experience another impact on August 5, when a drifting upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket collides with its surface. Travelling at approximately 2.43 kilometres per second (about 5,400 mph), the rocket section is expected to create a new crater near the Einstein Crater, visible from Earth.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) confirmed the collision after astronomers identified the rocket debris on a collision course with the Moon. The object, weighing around 4,000 kilograms on Earth and roughly the size of a five-storey building, originated from a Falcon 9 launch in January 2025.
