Stephen Maina emerged victorious in the men’s 20 km half marathon during the National Association of Korea Marathon held in Nyahururu on Saturday.

Maina completed the race in 1:21:26, finishing ahead of his closest competitors, Titus Waithaka and Alex Kamau, who clocked 1:30:44 and 1:42:88 respectively.

Women’s 10 km Race Results

In the women’s 10 km event, Magrete Akindong’ Athike led the field with a time of 33:32:90. She was closely followed by Tabitha Njeri at 33:37:41, and Rose Wangui who finished third in 33:40:32.

Event Overview and Significance

The marathon time trials attracted over 600 athletes training in Nyahururu and nearby areas. The event serves as a selection platform for elite and emerging runners to earn opportunities to train and compete in Korea.

Joel Kimaru, a veteran coach with experience training athletes in Korea, explained that the trials identify individuals with potential to represent Kenya in Korean races.

Park Sung Gun, an official and athlete from the National Association of Korea Marathon, highlighted Kenya’s favorable climate as a key factor in producing world-class athletes who excel both locally and internationally.
