Tanzania Unveils 25-Year Technology Roadmap to Drive Innovation and Development
Tanzania drafts a comprehensive 25-year technology roadmap covering 13 sectors to steer research, innovation, and investment aligned with national priorities.
Tanzania's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has formulated a draft National Technology Roadmap designed to anticipate the country's technological needs over the next 25 years. The plan, announced during a forum in Tanga, aims to guide strategic research, innovation, and investment across 13 key sectors.
Ladislus Mnyone, director of the ministry's Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation, emphasized that the roadmap will support coordinated efforts to address cross-cutting technology challenges that impact all economic sectors. He highlighted the importance of aligning innovation initiatives with Tanzania’s broader National Development Vision 2050.
Key Objectives of the Roadmap
- Provide long-term guidance for government and stakeholders on technology investments and research priorities.
- Encourage collaboration beyond individual institutions to focus on national interests.
- Promote practical solutions from stakeholders to enhance the role of science, technology, and innovation in sustainable development.
Mnyone also noted the ministry’s ongoing implementation of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Master Plan, which includes engaging Tanzanians living abroad to contribute to education and innovation efforts.
The roadmap is expected to culminate in a technical document containing policy recommendations and actionable measures to strengthen Tanzania’s technological capabilities and support economic growth.
