Detectives from the Makadara Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended a taxi driver suspected in the stabbing death of Kennedy Kibet Ngeno near Nyayo National Stadium.
The arrest was confirmed on August 4, 2026, by Makadara Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Judith Nyongesa, who stated that the suspect will be arraigned at Makadara Law Courts the following day.
Incident Details
On the evening of July 31, 2026, 30-year-old Kennedy Ngeno, originally from Roret in Kericho County, was fatally stabbed along Mombasa Road while heading toward Pipeline with friends. Earlier that day, he had spent time with relatives in Uthiru and gone out for drinks.
Family members, including Ngeno's cousin Leonard Cheruiyot, reported that the conflict began after an online taxi driver damaged their vehicle. When the group stopped to inspect the damage, the driver became hostile, smashed the windscreen, and fled. Kennedy was called back to the scene, where a heated argument ensued, culminating in the driver stabbing him before escaping.
Another individual was injured during the altercation and was taken to Mbagathi Hospital and then Kenyatta National Hospital, where Kennedy was pronounced dead.
