At least three individuals lost their lives and 21 others sustained injuries after a woman detonated a homemade explosive device near a restaurant in Moscow, according to Russian security officials.
The incident occurred around 8:00 pm local time at Kudrinskaya Square, close to the city centre. Authorities from the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAK) reported that the woman was stopped by a security guard as she attempted to enter the restaurant. She then triggered the bomb, resulting in the deaths of the guard and a restaurant visitor.
Witnesses on social media described the venue as hosting a private event at the time and reported seeing people being carried out with bloodied clothes. Initial accounts suggested the explosion took place in the kitchen, but the restaurant later clarified that the disturbance was outside the premises.
Following the blast, roads around Kudrinskaya Square were temporarily closed, and an evening cycling event nearby was cancelled. Video footage showed heavily armed law enforcement securing the area, which was cordoned off from the public.
