A tragic incident occurred at Mvita Primary School in Majengo, Mombasa County on Friday evening when a three-year-old boy drowned in the school's swimming pool.
Police reported that the incident was brought to their attention around 6:40 pm by a relative of the deceased, who said the child had been swimming with other children at the time of the accident.
Following an alarm, bystanders pulled the boy from the water and rushed him to MEWA Hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities visited both the hospital mortuary and the scene to investigate. Preliminary findings indicated no external injuries on the child’s body, consistent with drowning. The body was subsequently moved to Pandya Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning. This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance by parents, guardians, and caretakers during swimming activities to prevent similar tragedies.
