An eight-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in a swimming pool during a birthday celebration at an apartment complex in Nyali, Mombasa County.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 26, when a mother was hosting a party for her six-year-old daughter. Several children went to swim in the apartment pool around 4 pm.
According to police reports, the host noticed something amiss and found the boy floating in the pool. He was pulled out and given first aid before being rushed to Premier Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Authorities have documented the scene and transferred the boy's body to Jocham Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Additional Drowning Incident in Migori County
On the same day, a 14-year-old Grade Six pupil drowned in a dam in Masebe, Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County. The boy had been sent to fetch water but instead went swimming with friends. Police confirmed the boy was overwhelmed by the deep water and drowned.
The body was taken to Akidiva Mindira Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination. Police have urged parents to supervise children closely and warned against swimming in unprotected water bodies.
Separate Murder Investigation in Kilifi County
Meanwhile, police in Kilifi County are investigating the murder of an 80-year-old man found hacked to death in Gede, Malindi Sub-County. The victim, Charo Randu Chengo, sustained multiple head wounds and was discovered in a pool of blood.
Investigators from local police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and Crime Scene Investigation teams are working to establish the motive and identify the perpetrators. The body was taken to Malindi Sub-County Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
