Eric Ochieng had just completed constructing a contemporary house in Kitale, a project years in the making, only to lose his life days before moving in. The house, featuring pitched roofs, large glass windows, white finishes, and solar power, symbolised his family's hard work and aspirations.
Tragically, Ochieng died in a road accident along Mbagathi Way, Nairobi, when the BMW he was travelling in crashed near a footbridge and caught fire, killing everyone on board.
Instead of a housewarming celebration, his newly finished home became a place of mourning. Funeral tents were set up in the compound as family and friends gathered to grieve the loss.
A close friend recalled their last conversation, expressing sorrow over the sudden turn of events: "You told me you had finished the house and planned to visit Eldoret soon. Little did I know I would be burying you instead. The house is beautiful; you did well."
