Trans Nzoia has regained its position as Kenya's top-performing county in agriculture, scoring 60 percent in the latest CountyTrak Performance Index by Infotrak. The county leads the nation ahead of Murang’a (56%) and Kiambu (55%).
Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet follow in fourth and fifth place with scores of 54 and 53 percent respectively. Kericho, Tharaka Nithi, and Homa Bay share the sixth spot at 51 percent, while Nandi and Bungoma each scored 50 percent.
Notable Movers in Agricultural Rankings
- Embu recorded the most significant improvement, climbing 19 places from 32nd in 2024 to 13th in 2026.
- Nandi rose 17 places to ninth position.
- Kericho moved up 13 places to sixth.
- Garissa improved by 11 places to 33rd.
- Siaya advanced from 47th to 37th place.
Kiambu was the fastest riser among the leading counties, jumping from 27th in 2023 to third in 2026, with a nine-point increase in score from 46 to 55 percent.
Overall Agricultural Performance
The national average score for agriculture stands at 44.4 percent, a slight improvement from 43 percent in 2024 but still below the 51 percent recorded in 2023. Agriculture ranks as the fourth-best performing devolved function after education, environment and natural resources, and energy.
The CountyTrak Index measures residents’ perceptions of county governments’ effectiveness in facilitating farming activities, livestock management, access to affordable food, and handling livestock diseases and carcass disposal.
The survey was conducted between January and May 2026, covering all 47 counties, 290 constituencies, and 1,450 wards, with 36,200 respondents participating. Residents rated various indicators on a scale of one to ten, which informed the county performance scores.
