US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened promptly or Iran will face severe repercussions.
Speaking during a visit to California, Trump emphasized the strategic importance of the strait, a vital route for global oil and gas shipments, and indicated that ongoing negotiations could soon yield a resolution.
Negotiations Underway
According to reports from Axios, the US, Iran, and Oman are close to agreeing on a temporary 60-day arrangement to ensure safe passage through the strait. The plan would designate a northern shipping lane for incoming vessels and a southern lane through Oman's waters for outbound traffic, without imposing toll fees.
Trump expressed optimism about the talks, saying, "We're having very good discussions" and that Iran appears eager to end the conflict that escalated after strikes by the US and Israel on February 28.

As he prepared to depart for Las Vegas, Trump suggested that an agreement could be finalized "tomorrow or the next day." He also warned, "The strait is going to be open very soon, or they're going to get hit very hard -- and then the strait's going to be open."
