The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled a recruitment drive featuring 54,016 vacancies aimed at enhancing career growth for current educators and reinforcing the Competency Based Education (CBE) framework in junior schools.
The vacancies comprise 34,016 promotion opportunities across various teaching and administrative roles in public primary and secondary schools, as well as teacher training colleges. Additionally, 20,000 permanent and pensionable teaching positions are available for junior school educators.
Application Details and Eligibility
- Promotion candidates must apply online via the TSC portal by midnight, August 10, 2026.
- Applications for junior school teaching roles open on August 18 and close on August 31, 2026.
- Only online applications will be accepted; manual submissions are not considered.
- Applicants for junior school teaching posts must be Kenyan citizens with at least a diploma in education, a minimum C+ grade in KCSE, and be registered with TSC.
- Promotion applicants must meet the Career Progression Guidelines, including service duration, performance ratings, and mentorship capabilities.
Positions Available
Promotion vacancies cover a wide range of roles, including:
- Senior Teacher II (13,490 positions)
- Senior Master IV (5,956 positions)
- Senior Teacher I (4,210 positions)
- Chief Principal (61 positions across regular schools and teacher training colleges)
- Senior Principal, Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Lecturer, Curriculum Support Officers, and Senior Headteacher roles also feature prominently.
The junior school teaching vacancies will support the implementation of the Junior School Curriculum across counties, with recruitment based on merit and available slots.
Budget and Promotion Context
The 2026/27 budget allocates Sh2 billion to facilitate the promotion of approximately 30,000 teachers, addressing stagnation issues where many educators have remained in the same job grades despite meeting promotion criteria.
TSC Chairman Jamleck Muturi highlighted that these promotions recognize merit and provide career advancement opportunities, noting that over 274,000 teachers have been promoted in the past three years.
