TSC Prioritizes Internship Experience in Scoring for 20,000 Teaching Jobs
TSC awards up to 70 marks for internship experience in its scoring system for 20,000 teaching vacancies, giving interns a significant edge over other candidates.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled the criteria for scoring applicants vying for 20,000 post-primary teaching positions, placing significant emphasis on internship experience.
Scoring Breakdown
- Internship Experience: Candidates who completed at least 12 months of internship receive 70 marks, while those with less than a year get 50 marks.
- Years Since Qualification: Teachers who qualified in 2010 or earlier earn 20 marks, with one mark deducted for each subsequent year up to 2026, where candidates get 4 marks.
- Age: Applicants aged 50 and above score 7 marks; those between 45 and 49 get 5 marks; candidates 44 and below receive 3 marks.
- Academic Qualifications: First Class degree holders earn 3 marks; Second Class degree holders get 2 marks; Pass degree holders receive 1 mark. Diploma holders can earn up to 3 marks depending on their grade.
Additional Guidelines
The TSC will prioritise candidates from the sub-county where the vacancy exists, followed by those from the wider county. Preference is also given to applicants who have not previously held permanent and pensionable TSC positions.
Applicants must be legally registered teachers and present original documents including national ID, teacher registration certificates, academic transcripts, and examination certificates during interviews. Discrepancies in names across documents require affidavits.
Inclusion of Teachers with Disabilities
At least 5% of vacancies are reserved for teachers with disabilities. Their scoring system allocates 70 marks for experience, 20 for years since qualification, 7 for age, and 3 for academic and professional qualifications.
Transparency and Accountability
TSC Acting CEO Evaleen Mitei emphasized the need for transparent recruitment. Selection panels are tasked with verifying credentials and adhering strictly to the published scoring guidelines.
The recruitment drive, launched on July 28, 2026, also includes 34,016 promotion opportunities, bringing the total advertised positions to 54,016.
