The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has detained two suspects amid an ongoing investigation into a violent robbery and gang rape incident in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.
The attack followed a road traffic accident involving a couple near Kikuyu Boys High School. Two individuals approached the victims under the guise of offering help but instead assaulted them.
Details of the incident:
- The suspects robbed the victims of their valuables.
- They coerced the victims into revealing their M-Pesa PINs and drained their accounts.
- The female victim was subjected to a gang rape during the ordeal.
A combined taskforce from the DCI Headquarters’ Operations Action Team (OAT), Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), and Kikuyu detectives launched an investigation. Forensic analysis and intelligence gathering led to the arrest of two persons of interest in Kamangu, Kikuyu.
Recovered evidence includes mobile phones used for fraudulent M-Pesa transactions and two pangas believed to have been utilized in the crime.
Investigations are expanding to identify a third suspect believed to have received the stolen phones. Authorities are also exploring possible connections between the detainees and other similar violent crimes in Kikuyu Sub-County and surrounding areas.
The suspects remain in custody at Kikuyu Police Station pending identification parades, further investigations, and eventual court arraignment.
The DCI has praised the public for their cooperation and reaffirmed its dedication to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes.
