Two pupils from Hebesha Academy tragically lost their lives following a bus accident on the Mikinduri-Kunati road in Meru County. The incident occurred at night as the school bus, operated by the Mugambi Imanyara Foundation, was returning from a school trip.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene with injured children being pulled from the wrecked bus and rushed to hospital in private vehicles. One local resident recounted how the noise of the crash drew people from their homes, and upon arrival, she found several children still trapped inside the bus. She noted that some pupils died at the scene, while others with serious injuries were quickly evacuated.
The bus driver also sustained severe injuries, reportedly losing an arm and suffering head wounds.

Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi expressed deep sorrow over the accident in a Facebook post. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery to those injured. The MP also sent sympathies to the school management, learners, and the wider community affected by the tragedy.
"It is with profound sadness that I have received the heartbreaking news of the tragic road accident involving learners from Hebesha Academy," he wrote, urging the public to keep all affected in their thoughts and prayers.
