The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended two men suspected of robbing and sexually assaulting a couple in Kikuyu after a road traffic accident.
The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Kevin Ndereba Kilonzo and 34-year-old Shaban Warui Zainab, were arrested on July 31 in Kamangu, Kikuyu. Their arrest followed a thorough investigation involving the DCI Headquarters' Operations Action Team (OAT), the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), and local Kikuyu detectives.
The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, July 30, near Kikuyu Boys High School. The couple had veered off the road into a ditch when the suspects approached, pretending to offer assistance. Instead, they robbed the victims, forced them to disclose their M-Pesa PINs, withdrew money from their accounts, and sexually assaulted the female victim.
Investigators used forensic analysis, intelligence, and other leads to track the suspects. During the operation, police recovered mobile phones allegedly used for fraudulent M-Pesa transactions and two pangas believed to have been used in the attack.
Authorities are expanding investigations to identify any accomplices and determine if the suspects are linked to other violent crimes in Kikuyu and surrounding areas. The suspects remain in custody at Kikuyu Police Station pending identification parades and further legal proceedings.
The victims were rescued by members of the public and taken to P.C.E.A. Kikuyu Hospital for treatment. The suspects will face charges including Robbery with Violence under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code and Gang Rape under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006.
