The Wajir Law Courts have sentenced two men to death following their conviction for violently robbing a boda boda rider in Wajir Township.
Senior Principal Magistrate Eric Malesi found Abdiaziz Ali, also known as "Odi," and Abdiwahab Mohamed, alias "Steam Boy," guilty of robbery with violence. Abdiaziz Ali additionally faced charges for handling stolen property.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Robert Nyoro, presented testimonies from three witnesses and multiple exhibits. The court heard that on the night of November 13, 2025, the victim, Nesiah Thuranira, was attacked while riding his motorcycle along Baraza Park Road.
- Two men posed as passengers before five armed assailants emerged, using knives to threaten and assault the victim.
- The attackers stole a mobile phone valued at Ksh 30,000 and forced the victim to an M-Pesa shop to withdraw funds from his mobile wallet.
- They successfully withdrew Ksh 15,000 and attempted an additional Ksh 10,000 withdrawal, but the victim alerted the shop attendant, Josephat Kimathi.
- Investigations revealed the fraudulent transactions involved a mobile number registered under the first accused's sister’s identity without her consent.
- The stolen phone was later recovered from the home of Abdiaziz Ali’s mother.
The accused did not present any witnesses in their defence. Following the ruling, the court gave the convicts 14 days to file an appeal if they wish to challenge the decision.
