Authorities have apprehended two individuals in Kamangu, Kikuyu, suspected of involvement in a violent robbery and gang rape incident. The arrests followed an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the suspects allegedly targeted a couple who had been involved in a road traffic accident near Kikuyu Boys High School.

According to the DCI, the suspects approached the victims under the pretense of offering help. Instead, they exploited the victims' vulnerable state, robbing them of valuables and coercing them to reveal their M-Pesa PINs. The suspects then accessed and emptied the victims' mobile money accounts.

In addition to the robbery, the female victim was subjected to a gang rape. The matter was promptly reported to the police, triggering a coordinated operation involving DCI’s Operations Action Team (OAT), Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), and Kikuyu County detectives.

Investigators used forensic analysis and intelligence gathering to trace and arrest the suspects. During the operation, mobile phones used in fraudulent M-Pesa transactions and two pangas believed to have been used in the offences were recovered.

The DCI indicated that the arrests might lead to uncovering a broader criminal network linked to similar violent crimes in Kikuyu and neighboring areas. Efforts are ongoing to identify a suspected receiver of the stolen phones and to establish further connections.

Currently, the suspects are held at Kikuyu Police Station pending an identification parade and further legal processing. The DCI credited public information for the breakthrough and urged continued community cooperation in crime prevention.
