Kenyan police have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in a phone-snatching syndicate operating in Nairobi's busy commercial areas. The arrests were made during routine patrols along Digo Road by officers from Shauri Moyo police station.
Authorities recovered five mobile phones believed to have been stolen from members of the public. So far, three victims have positively identified their devices, which are now part of an ongoing investigation to link the suspects to other theft cases in the vicinity.
Targeted Areas and Police Efforts
The suspects are linked to multiple phone-snatching incidents around Gikomba and Digo Road, areas known for high pedestrian and trader traffic. The National Police Service (NPS) emphasized that sustained patrols and intelligence-led operations remain crucial in disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding the public.
“Routine patrols continue to yield significant results in the fight against crime,” the NPS stated, reaffirming their commitment to protecting citizens from opportunistic criminals.
Community Engagement and Continued Operations
The arrests follow a series of intensified crackdowns on mobile phone theft and the illicit trade of stolen electronic gadgets across Nairobi. Recently, four other suspects were detained in separate operations in different parts of the city.
The NPS urged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious behavior promptly, either at the nearest police station or through toll-free numbers. The service highlighted the importance of community cooperation in curbing street crimes.
As investigations proceed, the recovered phones remain key evidence, and police are working to establish further connections to ongoing theft incidents.
