UDA MP Betty Maina Issues Stark Warning to Rigathi Gachagua Over Personal Remarks
Murang'a Woman Rep Betty Maina warns Rigathi Gachagua to stop discussing her marriage or face a direct confrontation at his home in Wamunyoro.
Murang'a Woman Representative and UDA MP Betty Maina has publicly cautioned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against making personal comments about her marriage.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page on August 19, Maina expressed openness to political critique but drew a firm boundary when it came to her private life. She stated that while she welcomes political debate and criticism, any further remarks involving her marriage would provoke a strong response.
Maina warned that if Gachagua continued to bring up her marriage, she would personally visit his home in Wamunyoro, regardless of any attempts by law enforcement to intervene. She referenced the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, emphasizing that no authority would prevent her from confronting Gachagua directly.
She also took a swipe at Gachagua's sons, describing them as "two fat unmarried boys," underscoring the personal nature of her rebuttal. Maina concluded her post with a rhetorical question challenging whether she was the only married woman in politics, highlighting the gendered aspect of the attacks.
Public Reaction and Political Context
The post quickly gained traction online, gathering thousands of likes and shares, sparking widespread discussion about the personal dimensions of political rivalry in the Mount Kenya region.
Gachagua, who was removed from the Deputy Presidency in October 2024, remains an influential political figure and frequently comments on regional political matters. Maina’s decision to issue a public warning rather than address the issue privately signals the intensity of the dispute between the two politicians.
